InDesign Basics
Maximize your skills in Adobe InDesign, the industry's leading desktop publishing program for graphic design, EPUBs, and other media.
The class gets you up-to-speed in basic layout and design techniques and is perfect if you're new to InDesign, or if you never had formal training in the program. It is specifically designed for:
- Government publishers, communicators, and VISes
- Government contractors
- Graphic designers and desktop publishers
- Editors and project managers who need a basic course in order to edit and manage publications.
This master class is an entry-level class. Because it covers InDesign's core foundation, It's a great session to prepare you for future classes such as our Sec. 508 accessibility class, 508 InDesign + PDF.

- Basic desktop publishing procedures.
- Setting up new documents.
- Using InDesign's master pages, paragraph and character formatting styles, object styles and other tools.
- How to correctly format:
- Body text
- Tables
- Lists
- Headings
- Tables of Content
- Footnotes
- Hyperlinks
- Graphics
- Sidebars
- Using fonts.
- Importing Word and graphic files into the layout.
- Preflighting layout files for press and print.
- Archiving and "packaging" layout files.
- Exporting PDFs for press and print.
Added benefits: This class is designed to teach the best methods to design and build layouts that not only maximize InDesign's features, but also prepare you for EPUBs, accessible PDFs, automated publishing, and other media. You'll acquire a solid foundation of skills for future classes in those topics.
