About our Consulting & Training Services

PubCom is a full-service consulting firm that covers all the bases you’ll be hitting as you develop websites and print publications.

We look at communication from all angles—from the targeted audience and your intended goals to the visual design and presentation of your information to the hardware, software and technology that gets the job done right. PubCom has a long track record — over 30 years! — in publishing and marketing as well as computer technology, so you are assured that our recommendations are based on a wide breadth of knowledge about the industry.

Our goal is to give you solutions that match your publishing needs, whether that is recommending the best software for your tasks or providing a complete package of training, follow-up technical support and design. And, we are committed to long-term service and support to our customers.

Our core services are:
1. Technical consulting and solutions for publishing
2. Training
3. Assessments
4. Mentoring and technical support
5. Creative design services through our studio, i-Imagery Design.

1. Technical consulting and publishing solutions
PubCom puts its 30+ years of publishing experience to work, developing technical solutions for publications of all types: traditional print publications, database-driven publications, and cross-media for both web and print publishing.

We asses the current technologies that are available and select those that are appropriate for your printed publications and website materials, and develop a custom workflow or process that will meet your production demands.

When combined with our custom-designed templates and onsite training for your staff, you receive a complete package of tools and expertise to take advantage of today's publishing technologies.

2. Training
PubCom has very flexible training programs that can be customized to your needs. Emphasis is placed on how to create the types of websites, intranets and print publications your company needs. Our training options are:

Customized classroom training for one to three people at our multimedia training lab in Takoma Park, Md. Our classes can focus on a particular software program or a complete suite of tools so that your development team is skilled in all the applications required to construct your projects.

On-site training, for either individuals, small groups or large groups up to 12 people, can be customized to meet your organization’s project needs. We also can give technical seminars to large audiences to address topics for your work teams.

3. Assessments
Drawing on our background in multimedia, websites, and print publications, we can assess how well you're communicating to your audience. We can review:

  • User needs and GUI for websites;
  • Audience expectations for print publications;
  • Editorial quality and content; and
  • Visual design and presentation of the material.

As technology experts, we also can recommend the right combination of software and hardware to get your job done. PubCom can:

  • Conduct a systems analysis, recommending the software to meet your requirements;
  • Spec computer systems for both Macintosh- and Windows-based environments; and
  • Work with your IT department to coordinate your computer needs.

Our premiere lines of software include Adobe, Macromedia, Quark, Corel, Apple, and Microsoft, so you're assured of a well-rounded suite of software to execute your projects. We also recommend specialized utility programs from other manufacturers to complement your tasks.

4. On-site Mentoring
This program has been highly successful, especially when combined with our training and technical consulting.

Our designers and developers can be on-site for any length of time as you develop a project, acting as advisors, programmers, and on-the-spot trainers. It’s an effective way to meet your production schedule while your staff is still cutting its teeth in website development or desktop publishing. Plus, it extends the learning phase beyond the formal classroom and integrates it with real-world projects. Contracts for mentors can be for one week to several months in duration.
